The WarrensOffice Corporate Social Responsibility Statement
Our People
At Warrens Office, we realise that the quality and well-being of our staff are essential to achieve our customers’ total satisfaction and therefore the success of our business. We are committed to equal opportunities for all our employees and we seek to recruit staff in all parts of the business who share our passion for great customer service.
We ensure that all staff are given both general and business-specific training covering products, sales, health and safety, GDPR and environmental issues. We encourage career development generally and the staff are communicated to regularly and are engaged in the business. About a third of the workforce take advantage of our flexible working policy and staff also receive other benefits, such a private health care and an advantageous pension scheme. The happiness of staff is proved by the fact that many of them have worked for us for many years.
Our Community
Being part of the wider community matters to us. We are pleased to be gold sponsors of the local not-for-profit theatre, which provides an artistic programme of drama, dance, music and comedy for the city and surrounding area, as well as supporting emerging artists and providing opportunities for people of all ages to engage with the arts. We have sponsored one of Marwell Zoo’s Zany Zebras and we have a charitable supply arrangement with Naomi House. Our major charitable focus for 2019/20 is the Winchester Basics bank, which provides emergency food and clothes to individuals and families in need. We offer both financial and practical assistance and further information about this worthwhile cause can be found at www.winchesterbasicsbank.co.uk.
In June 2018, Paul Morgan, our MD, was awarded the prestigious Milennium Egg Award by Winchester City Council. The Egg has been described as Winchester’s equivalent to the “Lifetime Achievement” Oscar for the local economy.
We regularly support local schools and other community bodies, both financially and by donating products. Until very recently, the Managing Director was a board director of Winchester BID, a community backed not-for-profit initiative to energise the city centre. He has also been an active member of the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce for 25 years.
Our Environment
We are proud of our environmental credentials and we are committed to reducing our environmental impact by implement a robust system of environmental management. We have already obtained ISO 14001 accreditation and in 2015 we achieved Carbon Smart Gold certification, which was described as “an impressive achievement within 3 years” in the accreditation report. Frequent audits by the ISO regulatory body ensure that we constantly stretch ourselves to operate more sensitively and responsibly.
By joining our local environmental management group, Winchester Action for Climate Change, we commit ourselves to managing and reducing the significant environmental impact of local business. As well as adhering to stringent environmental standards in our own processes and waste management, we also promote and supply environmentally friendly products to customers who share our concerns about environmental impact.
